Question. What is a patch test?
Answer. A patch test is a test given by a hairdresser 24 hours prior to a chemical service - such as coloring or perming - to ascertain whether or not the client is allergic or hyper-sensitive to the chemical. You apply a small dab of the chemical to an area that is not visible (such as behind the ear) and leave it there for about an hour. Then you wipe and wash the area. After 24 hours you check the area for redness or irritation. If after 24 hours there is no reaction, you can safely continue with the chemical service.
