Question. I have very oily hair and I have to wash it every day to make it look good. How can I control the oiliness?
Answer. The key to controlling oily hair is to remove the sebum (a thick oily substance, secreted by the sebaceous glands) from the scalp. Allow shampoo to lather and leave lather on for at least five minutes before rinsing.
Shampoo is designed to clean the scalp not the hair, so shampoo daily with a specially formulated shampoo for oily hair. Skip the conditioner or apply some to the ends only if needed. Excessive combing and brushing makes the hair oilier by helping in the movement of sebum from the scalp down the hair shaft. The hair should be combed as little as possible.
Rinse your hair with cold water. You can use baby powder to make your hair look less greasy. Perming the hair makes your hair drier since the hair doesn't lie close to the scalp.
