5 Popular Hairstyles from the Golden Era

Hairstyles are evolving everyday with hairdressers trying new techniques and combinations to produce fresh styles. However, there are many hairstyles that have remained popular for over a century and here is an account of them all.

Feathered flip/Farrah flip

A symbol of Farrah Fawcett, also known as the Farah-do, the feathered outwards flip style inspired thousands of women in the 1970s and 1980s. After Farrah sported the hairstyle in Charlie’s Angels, it became very popular among the masses and is still followed today. Without the aid of mirror, Farrah did her own hairstyle and makeup most of the time. The simple outward flip was then adopted into many other styles that came after the 1980s.

The Rachel Bob

An all-time favorite series, Friends, was a reason for the popularity of this hairstyle that exists to this day. Rachel’s layered bob, framed around her face with highlights and lowlights was emulated by many women even a decade after the series went live. Jennifer Aniston’s hairstyles in the show were quite a treat to the eyes but this particular cut went on to become a trend because of the beautiful bouncy appeal that comes from the combination of simple techniques.

Dreadlocks

Inspired by celebrities like Bob Marley and Whoopi Goldberg, dreadlocks have been in fashion since the 1950s. The style involves letting hair grow as long as it can after sectioning it into tiny portions of locks. The style is often associated with the Rastafari movement but has been seen widely in the history of India, Asia, Africa, Greece, New Zealand, and many other places.

The Pixie cut

A pixie cut is a short hairstyle worn by women, generally short all around (the back and the sides) and slightly longer on the top; pixie cut photos.

The very short hairstyle with bangs in the front, which looks great on straight or wavy hair, was popularized by the most renowned actress Audrey Hepburn. The cut derives its name from pictorial representation of the fairytale characters that are depicted with this hairstyle. Presently, the pixie cut is a symbol of celebrities like Halle Berry, Emma Watson, and many more.

The Bouffant

A beehive like style, the bouffant hairstyle is a style with hair piled at the top of the head. It looks beautiful on women with short dark hair that is teased at the crown. The ends are curled outwards to produce a beautiful 1980s look. A bouffant looks gorgeous on wavy or straight hair, and does not require much effort. Variations of this style can be seen on the red carpet among celebrities like Zoey Deschanel, Beyonce, Gwen Stefani, and many more.
